TITLE:                      Farrier Science Instructor
REPORTS TO:           President
SALARY:                  D.O.E.
TOUR OF DUTY:       Generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., M-F, but may require evening and/or weekends.



As a faculty member, this position will perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in accordance with the mission statement and policies and procedures of the College.  The candidate will be responsible for instructing all aspects of farrier science including anatomy and physiology, corrective shoeing, hot and cold forged shoeing.  The candidate will also be responsible for advising students, developing and following class syllabi, and developing and evaluating the effectiveness of class presentations.



  1. Develops course instruction for each class in accordance with the academic catalog.
  2. Develops tests and visual aids.
  3. Provide general classroom and clinical lab instruction.
  4. Incorporate latest instructional technologies and interactive learning technologies in course delivery.
  5. Use the on-line teaching tool for attendance and assignments.
  6. Manage overall program including recruiting students, maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, attending events to recruit students, serve on college committees.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Associates degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of continuous and documented experience as a full-time farrier.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Valid driver’s license required and the ability to be insured to drive college vehicles.
  • Previous coaching experience preferred.



  • Knowledge of and ability to follow SWC policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate rodeo program.
  • Knowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to others in a professional, helpful manner.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality. Displays high standards of ethical conduct.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision making processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other faculty, staff members, students, and the public.
